The awe-inspiring sight shows baby star Herbig-Haro 110 shedding a long tail of blue-coloured gas as it ricochets off a nearby dust cloud. Inspired by the historic date, scientists from NASA have released this picture from Hubble, likening the display to U.S. Independence Day celebrations that will take place up and down the country today.
