Going Like The Clappers!

So, not long until the Official Opening of the Olympic Games 2012.

For the most part I'm not that fussed about it...costs so much, security scaremongering, etc etc. But this morning I was fully swept up by The Big Bong. Now, I thought it was just a joke on the wonderful BBC programme Twenty Twelve. But, no, it was for real! At 12 minutes past 8 this morning we were asked to ring a bell, any bell, for 3 minutes. So I, of course, used one of my trusty cowbells! I may not be interested in the Olympics but I am a total sucker for the Winter Olympics - ice hockey, skiing, ice skating and the like. Love it!

Meanwhile, Mr B and his trusty camcorder wandered down to our village church and was invited to ring one of the church bells!

In fact, as I type this, this evening, I am a 'bell ringing widow' as Friday night is bell ringing night and I think he's hooked!

Spanish Week @ Pennyblossoms #3

Hola from Peseta-blossoms!
Just in case you are missing the rain after such a glorious sunny Sunday, (well, it was here!), here's a little feast for the eyes, those blue Spanish eyes, a selection of water features in the Generalife.

Spanish Week @ Pennyblossoms

Hola! from Euroblossoms!

Here we have another video from Mr B. Again, as with the swifty-swallows yesterday, this was filmed about 7 o'clock in the morning, after the crew had worked through the night!

I was a busy ZoZo today; had my hair cut at lunchtime, met Mr B for lunch, (he's on his summer break), and then had my Support Worker come and visit. Phew!

Off to Brum tomorrow, to see the osteopath. I missed an appointment cos' I couldn't get there and had to cancel a couple of appointments due to root canal tooth treatment, so am in dire need of a crunch! Mind you, Andrew specialises in Cranial Osteopathy, which is much gentler.

Another meeting with the SW on Thursday, doctors appointment Friday and then THIS

Still haven't download my photos from the Vintage Garden Party. I do believe that dear Margaret is probably still waiting to see her photo up 'in lights', so to speak. So...

...looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

One Swallow Does Not A Summer Make*

Not these three blue beauties.

Not even if he's French!

*But this flock of Spanish 'screechers'...now, that really is summer!

(If you use Firefox, it won't play my video and after 2 hours or more faffing around uninstalling/installing Adobe Flash, I'm giving up for now!!)

New Kid On The Foodie Block

I don't know how long 'wraps' have been around, but I've never fancied one until today.

They always struck me as an anaemic-looking roll of pap.

Until encountering the newly opened, (well, to me anyway!), Muffin Break.
OMG! as they say. A yummy, YUMMY roast beef wrap. Loads of fresh crispy salad and lovely, tasty and generous portion of roast beef. Did I say it was yummy?

We shared the wrap and had a 'Yo-Yo' each; a cute little ball-shaped custard cream-type biscuit, all crispy-crunchy. Enough to enjoy and savour, but not so much to make me feel guilty!

And a cute smiley face that peered back at me as I finished my cappuccino. What's not to love?
And yes, it was a great coffee too!
We will be back! (Tomorrow????)

If I Were A Rich Girl...

...these would be in my suitcase. Mind you, if I owned these they would probably travel in one of those fabulous vintage Vuitton trunks!!!
(Well, a girl can dream!)

Hand-beaded spectacular, by Elie Saab. In 'that' colour, Danielle!!

J'adore this wonderful gown by Alexis Mabille, a new name on my radar. Would leave off the 'headdress' tho'!

Stunning Givenchy gown. Even with the fur!

Rather like that beautiful, deceptively simple, pale pink Dior dress too.
All photos from the Telegraph.

Well, it's Saturday evening and I guess I really should unpack my case!!

Tea

My lack of history knowledge knows no bounds!

This iconic 1846 lithograph by Nathaniel Currier was entitled "The Destruction of Tea at Boston Harbor"; the phrase "Boston Tea Party" had not yet become standard. Contrary to Currier's depiction, few of the men dumping the tea were actually disguised as Indians.

Many years ago, I had the pleasure of attending a 'schools matinee', a special show that many dance companies would hold especially tailored for school children. (Now probably even more so, with GCSE/O level dance exams that can be part of the curriculum).

It was at Sadlers Wells Theatre and was performed by Rambert Dance Company. My memory is so bad I can't remember what the dance piece was called, but they explored a section of it that was about The Boston Tea Party. I have just Wiki'd to double-check that this was the fore-runner, so to speak, of American Independence Day. (Said my history knowledge was baaaad!). And, um, yes it was. (For the others among you who weren't 100% sure!).

I had a call from Mr B late last night. They are an hour ahead, and tend to be working late into the night. The show will be held in an open air theatre and doesn't start until 10.30pm!

So, they worked until 4am Monday night/Tuesday morning. The hotel is right across the road from the stage. They don't have tea/coffee making facilities in the room and no 24hr room service. One of the crew asked the chap on reception if there was anywhere they could get a tea.

The receptionist thought for a while and then answered
"You can get a drink at the local cemetery".

No joke.

Mourners apparently mourn through the night and the cemetery has a cafe for them to be able to have hot drinks during their mourning!
I find that so odd on so many levels...to mourn overnight and be able to get a cuppa. Jolly good idea though; could you imagine that happening in the UK? Maybe it does, do you know different?

(Gratuitous shot 'cos my dad designed/drew the original lady picking tea)
Oh, and by the way, I don't drink tea!

Happy 4th of July

The awe-inspiring sight shows baby star Herbig-Haro 110 shedding a long tail of blue-coloured gas as it ricochets off a nearby dust cloud. Inspired by the historic date, scientists from NASA have released this picture from Hubble, likening the display to U.S. Independence Day celebrations that will take place up and down the country today.

C'est La Vie!

I am spending my vacation chez Northampton.

I am fine - now! Just had a call from Mr B and they have arrived at Malaga. So, onwards, by minibus, to Granada.

Jealous? No! Just happy to be feeling so much calmer in myself.

Thank you, to all who left such supportive messages. They were, and are a great help.
