BEDM - Day 1 "A Sense of Purpose"

Well hello to the world of Pennyblossoms!

I think that BEDM has come just at a good time, (yeah, like, um, the beginning of May?).
I ground to a halt after loosing Tabby and just retreated into my shell. Either that or I was just being a grumpy git!
Think it might be time to invest in some new glasses!
What else can you do with 2 Flake Ice Cream cone plastic tops?
(Answers on a postcard please)
Me...grumpy git?
For those who don't know me or need a re-cap, I'm Zoe, not actually 'Penny' but called this blog after a storyline in an episode of The Big Bang Theory, a show I love so much that when I watch it on E4 I'll watch it again on E4+1. I am getting scarily word perfect on some of the episodes!

I have a long-suffering partner, who is known as Mr B on this site, because one blogger commented about 'Mr Blossom'. He isn't, but the name serves a purpose.

Pucker Up on the 1st May
Mwahh to Mr B
I said out loud to him "Ah, yes...Pennyblossoms; I'm fat and 50, that's my introduction", to which he replied "Not fat, fabulous". That sounds a lot more positive, but I am very overweight, due in part to laziness, mental health issues and medication (probably).
But a lot better than when I started this blog at the end of May 2009.
And actually I'm nearly 55!

Lucky Girl

I may be a lucky girl because I now own a MAC x Brooke Shields eye palette that sold out across the world on the day of its' release.

But I even luckier to have a wonderful partner who limped down to Selfridges in his between shows break and bought the last on in the store for me!

That really is lucky!

Thank you Mr B

Don't Go Breaking My Heart

I've hankered after a pair of Terry de Havilland shoes since forever!

Having bitten the bullet, egged on by Pearls' post, I plumped for 'Jay', in the sale on the TdeH website and over 200 quid cheaper than Sarenza!!

(Start small I thought and then work up to the even more beautiful expensive 'Margaux').

Sadly, I don't think the cut of his jib suits my foot. Great round the heel-end and with lacing good over my foot. But where have my toes gone???

I know I'm not actually going to be wearing that much, I mean, look at that heel height, but I still want them to fit and not make me look as though the front end of my foot is deformed!

So, not this time, but, maybe, if I get to actually try some on before I buy, I may yet find the perfect pair.

Pretty blue nail varnish is Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Blueberry. My first Barry M nail varnish.
(Oh yes, I really know how to push the boat out!).
Thanks to Victoria extolling the virtues of their Gelly Hi-Shine Lips, I did a little recce on the Boots website and, when in the store, plumped for the 3 for 2 offer, and bought the lippie in Capella and the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Cool Medium 2.

After trying out the Boots No7 Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation on her recommendation too and being totally impressed I think Florence & Mary is becoming my go-to beauty bible!!

Let Me Brooch The Subject

I cannot believe my luck!
I saw this brooch on the fb page for the fair I went to today, I didn't get there until about an hour before it closed and the first stall I looked at there it was.

metal, 1950's totally fab and about twice the size I thought it would be
New setting, new stalls to me.

It wasn't very busy while I was there, so I guess I missed the rush!

From the same lady, but apparently a decade older, from the 60's. Metal again; I have no idea of what they are or whether they are the same make or whatever, I just think they are beautiful and think they will get lots of wear and are timeless.

There was supposed to be a 'Vintage Tea Party', no idea where and after waiting 10 minutes to get a coffee at this part of the bar, I had had enough and left!

I found it all rather bleak and not particularly friendly; if you were 'one of the gang' it seemed to be one big jolly with many of the stallholders quaffing wine and chatting to one another. All very well if they all buy from one another, but there were a couple of coats that I tried on and put back and some shoes that caught my eye. If the stallholders had had an interest in the fact I was there and actually given me a 'nudge', I may've bought them all, but I really didn't feel the joy, and didn't feel I would regret not buying them.
And I don't!
surely I don't look that offensive to a stallholder?
So, I trundled off on a bus jaunt and ended up at Waitrose and had a toasted t-cake and my freebie coffee; much better idea!

Victoria, (Florence and Mary), recently did a post on what to spend those pesky Boots vouchers on, you know, you buy something and use it and then they give you another one! She'd tried and recommended the Boots No7 Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation and I gave it a go today. This was taken after my afternoon out and I think you can say it did a very good job! My shade is Cool Beige.
Will do a post on my Boots haul this week (oh, yes, there's more!).
Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Eye Eye

Having accrued all this make up, I thought I'd have a little play!

And then I had a little play with special FX.

Have a great weekend

My Little Manchester Treat

Hastily taken photos of the new, limited edition palette, by Bobbi Brown and Katie Holmes.

A pretty fair colour match even though this was taken in electric light.

Sharon really took her time with trying out the cheek/lip colours out on me with no pressure put on to buy, which is always nice! These 2 colours are not available in their regular range.
I think this will be a good travel set and a good starter set of BBs' items for me to try - some matt eye colours, some with a very fine glimmer and a glittery brown one. There is also a brown eye pencil.

I've also got a foundation stick which Sharon used on me and that I have fallen in love with! I think it will be my lifetime quest to find the perfect foundation; the colour suits, it feels great to put on and blend and seems to have great staying power too! I think that's Winter 2013 sorted then!

Was also given a sample pot of Vitamin Enriched Face Balm, that I tried under the foundation. This moisturises and works as a primer too. If I hadn't got a new bottle of MACs prep+prime sitting at home, I think that may have gone in my bag too!
It is gorgeous!

Ditsy Belle #29 - Eyeshadow

Can I pick just one? Can I, heck!
l to r
Carine Roitfield for MAC - Sahara Dust, Cactus Thorn, Desert, Carbon; MAC palette - Mink Pink, Bruised Plum, Black Tulip, Jungle Moon; MAC Packed To Go (6 cool smoky eye shadows) - Seedy Pearl, Tendersmoke, Satin Taupe, A Brown Suit, Beauty Marked, Carbon (written about here)

Hello Liberty Kitty palette, see here for my original post, written before I bought mine in the sale at Boots! (Bargain...couldn't resist)

l to r
 Cinder Ash, Mehndi Brown, Onyx,
Diamond, Tsarina, Pasha

Goodness, this palette is ancient, but if I could only take one set away with me, (as opposed to enough to fill a beauty counter), this would be 'The On'e. It is by Diane von Furstenberg, who I didn't even know did make up!  I found it in TK Maxx when it first opened in Birmingham.
Totally love this set.

l to r
Full Frontal, Glamazon, Socialite, Boy Toy, Skinny Dip, Lucky Charm
plus a tube of Shadow Insurance base

And, finally an eyeshadow kit by Too Faced. I found this earlier in the year for £6.99 in TK Maxx. A lot more zingy colours than above.  Looks good? Any one tried this?

Hello, Liberty Kitty

I found this article in the Daily Mail.

Liberty of London are bringing out a range of Hello Kitty goodies!

There are fabrics, lotions and potions, and some make-up too.
This range is directed at grown-ups.

I have put a link to Liberty above but there seems no information is available on their website as yet.

This is a limited range for, I believe, 2 weeks only from 26 September 2011.

Now, I love Hello Kitty as much as the next fanatic...I have jewellery, bubble bath, etc etc, and I rather adore Liberty's, but...this does absolutely nothing for me on any level at all!

I'm a traditionalist at heart I think. I like the proper Hello Kitty goods and the proper Liberty prints in their proper colour schemes! When I saw the title of the article, my heart skipped a beat. But I know this is one limited edition I won't be buying into!

What do you all think? Do you like the colours and designs? Are any of you fans of Hello Kitty?

Who's A VERY Lucky Girl, Then?

At long last after much trawling of t'internet, after seeing it on Pixiwoo, I found it! Hurrah! Woop!

Thought I'd peek in Debs in Brum and yes, Smashbox had a stand. The smallest, shared, display, ever!
I hung around for a while and couldn't see it on display, so as it seemed obvious no-one was coming to help, I looked thru' the stock drawers below!
And there it was ! One lone Smashbox Masquerade Palette! In the drawer, unloved and unseen by Joe Public! Then there was the small problem of finding someone at a till, for me to pay for it. I seriously believe I could've walked outta that store without anyone taking a blind bit of notice! (Wasn't prepared to try out my theory, tho'!)
The colours are designed to work together in rows of 3, up, down and diagonally, which is quite nifty if you're not too sure about colour blending.

Then, my wonderful Mr B came home with THIS!

MAC 'Packed To Go' 6 Cool Smoky Eye Shadows.
l-r, t-b
seedy pearl, tendersmoke, satin taupe
a brown suit, beauty marked, carbon
Apparently these are marketed for Duty Free shopping only. Mind you, at Heathrow, the counter staff hadn't got a clue! Thankfully, the lovely MAC girl at Narita were on the ball and asked if it was a gift, and very kindly packaged it up with ribbons and bows! How kind was that?

I found out about it on this website, http://beauty-free.co.uk/. I used the photo above from this site, as mine came out rubbish! Don't know who she is, as there are no personal details. But if you are flying/cruising away on holiday, this is the site to look at! I was browsing for Japanese beauty stuff and came across this site. She covers all the 'specials', stuff not available in the regular shops. Makes for very interesting reading!

Mr B also managed to get here, not London, but Tokyo, and bought me this for my birthday!

A Vivienne Westwood amethyst orb necklace. I was very nearly in tears.
It is very beautiful and I am very lucky!
